Poorly Designed!

The good: very nice staff and great location near some fantastic restaurants. Pool area was fantastic. Also, the breakfast was very good and had nice options. The bad: The layout of our hotel room was probably the dumbest I have ever seen in my life. The room itself was not small, but for some reason, the toilet room was smaller than an airplane bathroom. I'm slightly above average in height and I could not comfortably sit in the bathroom. I don't get why the room would be designed like this. In fact, I started to use the lobby bathroom. In addition, the hotel is extremely outdated and things are falling apart. The tile in our room was cracking, the buttons on the elevator were coming off, the carpets looked 20 years old, and so many other issues. Overall, I think the hotel needs a major renovation.

Absolutely awful and must be avoided at all costs. The service was so poor, the hotel is outdated and needs and revamp. The towels need replacing as they are in a bad way. In the first night they could not find our booking and accommodated us in a ground floor dingy room with filthy carpets. I was adamant it was the staff quarters. The third bed was not made up despite asking the several times. In the end we made the bed ourselves. The following day they moved us to the 4th floor however no apologies and claimed it was the agents fault. Even then they gave us a city view and not the poolside with balcony. The hotel does not live up to a 4* international chain of hotels. It’s pretty embarrassing. They have the sister hotel Sofitel across the road which looks far more appealing.

Great location, but some areas for improvement

Having read the negative reviews, I was somewhat nervous about staying at the Novotel. It was February half term holiday, though, and hotel prices were sky high in Marrakesh. In the end we were generally happy with the hotel and it was a comfortable stay. As others have noted, reception staff are not very friendly or welcoming, however all the other staff we met were super nice. The room, whilst somewhat aging, was a good size and had a nice little balcony over looking the pool. The AC didn't seem to cool much, so this could be a big issue in the summer. Bed was comfy, shower was good and the WIFI worked well. Breakfast in the bar area off the lobby was very good, with a nice range of fresh juices, breads pastries and cakes, hot items and Arabic dishes. This was a good start to the day. By hotel standards the bar was quite popular in the evenings (inside and on the terrace). Location is perfect; an easy 20 minute walk to Djemaa El Fna, but yet in the peaceful neighbourhood of Hivernage. Several good bars and restaurants a short walk away. I recommend Le 6 for both French and Moroccan food, in a lively bar type atmosphere.

A mix bag!

This hotel has so much potential but unfortunately the staff is letting it down. we arrived here in the night with our little son after booking and paying in advance but they did not find our booking. The reception lady (name starting with A) is very impolite and made us pay again for the whole thing. However, we later sorted out with the agency we used to book for this hotel and they sent all the confirmation codes etc. The room was nice, clean and spacious but there is no air conditioning. We couldn't sleep a single night due to the heat. The beds are comfortable but the pillows are rock hard. For early risers there are not many breakfast options available but if you would like to go after 9, there is better service. However, most hot food is being used repeatedly as left overs. The birds constantly feed on the food items which are uncovered. I mostly found the whole place always clean but the paintings in the reception freak me out. they should reconsider their decor. The hotel is very conveniently located form the main bazaar and many restaurants nearby. We ordered room service almost every night and it was always timely and tasty. The pool is nice and clean but its never warm enough for anyone to be able to take a dip at any time of the day. I believe there are some better options available in the area for the same price.

Well I chose this hotel for the image that the Accor group has in my imagination … here it remained imagination and did not become reality. To compensate a mistake at the check in I was upgraded to a de luxe room but all the rest was non even close to the Novotel and Accor standard. Cleanliness was poor, the toilette very old and the bathroom drain did not work properly. Breakfast was very much below the average. Imagine that the first day we had lunch and although the restaurant was open while they served our plates a second person was cleaning the ground with very smelly detergent. The sink in my room was clogged. The only good point was the shower. Really negative and not clean. For the same price you can find very nice Riad clean and closer to the Medina. The two points in the ranking just to make sure we give a chance to the people working in this hotel …
